Helen Boaden (born March 1, 1956 ) is a British journalist. Since April 2011 Boaden has been responsible for the global news section of the BBC. These include BBC World Service and BBC World News .

Life

Boaden attended Colchester County High School for Girls and Cedars Grammar School. She graduated from the University of Sussex with a Bachelor's degree in English History and English Literature . In 1999 she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School with an MBA.

Boaden began working as a journalist for the New York radio station WBAI in 1979. In 1983 she switched to Radio Leeds and thus to the BBC. Her further path led her to work as a reporter for Radio 4 of the BBC, of ​​which she became editor-in-chief in 1991. As a presenter, she was responsible for the Woman's Hour program and various political programs. In 1997 she became head of all economic programs at the BBC and a year later became the first woman in the station's history to head the current affairs department. From March 4, 2000 to September 20, 2004, she was the overall manager of BBC Radio 4 . Since April 2009, Boaden has been responsible for all twelve British broadcasting areas of the BBC and the 40 local radio stations broadcast there. Since April 2011 Boaden has been responsible for the global news section of the BBC. These include BBC World Service and BBC World News . Boarding is a member of the BBC Executive Board of seven. In this position, Boaden was responsible for significant staff cuts. This sparked debate within the BBC and the UK public.
