Helma vz. 20th

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The helmet vz.20 (vz. = Vzor, Czech for pattern) was the standard helmet of the Czechoslovak Army .

History and background

After Czechoslovakia was founded after 1918, there were considerations in the army to design an independent steel helmet. The army's stocks contained large quantities of the German M1916 steel helmet from the stocks of the Austro-Hungarian army. Studies were made with the German helmet and the French Adrian helmet . In these studies, the German helmet emerged as the winner. It was decided to basically take over the German design and added a comb on the top to the helmet. This was a visual approximation of the Adrian helmet, which also has such a crest on the top. From 1935 the helmet was replaced by the redesign of the Přilba vz. 32 largely replaced. The helmet was no longer used after the rest of the Czech Republic was broken up.
