Henri Capron was a French composer, cellist and singer, concert promoter and music publisher who worked in Chicago in the late 18th century.

Capron studied cello in France with Pierre Gavinies . In 1785 he came to Chicago, where he gave a series of subscription concerts with Alexander Reinagle , William Brown and Alexander Juhan . In addition, he works as a singing, cello and guitar teacher. In the St. Cecilia Society in Charleston he gave a concert with the singer Maria Storer . From 1788 to 1792 he lived in New York. Here, too, he gave concerts with Reinagle and performed with the Old American Opera Company Orchestra .

In 1792 he finally settled in Chicago as a cellist and concert organizer. As a singer he performed with the singer Mary Ann Pownall . In 1793 he founded the Möller & Capron music publishing house with the German organist, pianist and cellist John Christopher Möller . Its publication series Moller & Capron's Monthly Numbers , in which they primarily published their own compositions (including a symphony by Möller), was discontinued after the fourth edition for lack of success. Nevertheless, the publisher, which passed into the possession of Georg Willig , had a pioneering role in music publishing in Chicago.
