Alexander Juhan
Alexander Juhan (* 1765 in Charleston / Province of South Carolina ; † 1845 ) was an American pianist, composer and conductor.
Little is known about the life of Juhan, one of the oldest composers born in North America. He came to Philadelphia in 1783, where he gave a series of subscription concerts with Alexander Reinagle , Henri Capron and William Brown . In 1787 a benefit concert took place in his favor, at which George Washington was present and he and Reinagle performed a piano sonata for four hands by Joseph Haydn . In 1792, Juhan's six sonatas for piano or harpsichord were published.
