Henri Lezec

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henri Lezec is an American electrical engineer.

Lezec graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a PhD . He then worked at the NEC Fundamental Research Laboratories in Tsukuba and at Micrion and FEI Corporation in Germany and the USA, was at Caltech and was Research Director of the CNRS at the University of Strasbourg. He is project leader in the photonics and plasmonics group at the National Institute of Standards (NIST).

He is known for research on how plasmons can control the passage of light through openings at the nano level (with Thomas Ebbesen ) and for the production and measurement of metamaterials (materials with a negative refractive index, with Harry Atwater ).

In 2010 he and Federico Capasso received the Julius Springer Prize for Applied Physics . In 2010 he became a Fellow of the Optical Society of America .
