Henri Martin (chemist)

Henri Martin was a Swiss chemist .

Life

Martin worked for the Swiss company Cilag and synthesized glyphosate for the first time in 1950 . In 1959, Cilag was taken over by the US company Johnson & Johnson and glyphosate was sold to Aldrich (now Sigma-Aldrich ) along with other samples . The herbicidal effect of glyphosate was only discovered years later - in the early 1970s - by the US company Monsanto .

Henri Martin later worked in herbicide research at Ciba-Geigy for 15 years .
