Henrik Gottlieb

Henrik Gottlieb (* 1953 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) is a Danish translation scholar and subtitler. He teaches as an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen at the Department of English, German and Romance Studies.

Life

After graduating from Junior College in 1971, Gottlieb worked from 1980 to 1990 as a subtitler for Radio Denmark (culture & fiction) and from 1988 to 1990 for Danish TV2 at Columbus Film (documentaries) in Copenhagen. In 1990 he completed a master's degree in English and applied linguistics at the University of Copenhagen and worked from 1990 to 1992 as a research assistant at the Center for Translation Studies and Lexicography. From 1992 to 1995 he was a research fellow at the Institute for English Studies and in 1995 he was a research fellow in the subtitling department of TV International at Radio Denmark in Copenhagen. In 1995 he also took on a 1-year extraordinary professorship at the Institute for English Studies. From 1996 to 1999 he worked there as a lecturer and completed his doctorate in translation studies at the University of Copenhagen in 1998 with the thesis Subtitles, Translation & Idioms . Since 2000 he has been teaching as an associate professor at the Department of English, German and Romance Studies at the University of Copenhagen. Since 2006 he has been editor-in-chief of Perspectives magazine. Studies in Translatology. His main research interests are the influence of the English language on other languages ​​and subtitling strategies.
