Gert hunter
Gert Jäger (born May 13, 1935 in Dresden ) is a German translation scholar and specialist in Czech and Polish. As a university professor, he taught translation studies as well as theoretical and applied linguistics at the University of Leipzig .
Life
After graduating from high school in 1952, Jäger studied Bohemian , Polish , Russian , Serbo-Croatian and Lithuanian studies at the University of Leipzig from 1952 to 1956 and passed the final exams in Czech , Polish , Serbo-Croatian and Lithuanian in 1956 . After graduating, he worked for a year as a research assistant and from 1957 to 1959 as a lecturer at the interpreting institute at Leipzig University . From 1959 to 1962 he worked initially as a research assistant and from 1962 to 1964 as senior assistant at the Institute for Linguistics. From 1964 to 1969 he was in charge of teaching Slavic Linguistics at the Interpreting Institute and from 1969 to 1973 in the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics section. In 1963 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. in General and Slavic Linguistics and in 1973 Dr. sc. phil in translation studies at the University of Leipzig. From 1973 to 1992 he was professor of translation studies at the University of Leipzig.

The Leipzig School is considered to have been founded with the first scientific conference on fundamental issues in translation studies in 1965. With the work of her 'classical' representatives Gert Jäger, Otto Kade and Albrecht Neubert , she had a decisive influence on translation studies in its heyday between 1964 and 1988 and raised some fundamental questions that are still preoccupying the scientific discussion in translation studies today.
