Albrecht Neubert

Albrecht Gotthold Neubert (born March 3, 1930 in Hartenstein , Saxony ; † June 1, 2017 in Leipzig ) was a German linguist and translation scholar at the Leipzig School of Translation Studies .

Live and act

Albrecht Neubert studied English, Romance studies and German studies at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Leipzig from 1949 to 1953 . In 1955 he received his doctorate at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig on "The development of 'experienced speech' in the bourgeois English novel from Jane Austen to Virginia Woolf". The habilitation followed in 1960 under the title: “On the Critique of Semantic Positivism in the USA. With special consideration of the 'general semantics'. A contribution to studying the connections between language and society. ”After teaching for two years at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, he was appointed full professor for English and American studies in 1962 . From 1962 on, he also headed the university's interpreting institute. With the establishment of the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Section, into which the Interpreting Institute was incorporated, Albrecht Neubert took over the professorship for English-German translation studies , which he held until 1995. He made a significant contribution to the acceptance of translatology at the University of Leipzig and on an international level. Part of his research interests lie in the Leipzig School of Translation Studies, but also include many other aspects of translation. In addition to his own research activities, Albrecht Neubert worked, among other things, as editor of the journal for English and American studies. the International Journal of Translation Studies target and the number translation Scientific contributions as well as co-editor of Studies on Translation at Kent State University .
