The Henschel DH 500 Ca locomotive is a three-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotive that was built by the Henschel works . It was intended for use in the shunting service. The wheel arrangement of the Henschel DH 500 Ca is C. The locomotive belongs to the so-called third generation of Henschel locomotives. The locomotives of this series were driven by a coupling rod.
89 of the Henschel DH 500 Ca were built between 1959 and 1971. A large part went to companies in the German coal and steel industry. Eight locomotives were delivered to Spain, seven to Switzerland and four to Norway. The Sudan Railway Corporation ordered a total of 21 locomotives and nine went to the Ghana Railway Corporation .
The locomotive 52 of the United Schmiedewerke GmbH, Hattingen plant on the Henrichshütte site has been preserved as a museum . It was originally delivered to Ruhrstahl AG as Lok 34 (1962). The former factory locomotive No. 5 of the Bochum Opel factory has also been preserved in the Bochum Railway Museum. Three other locomotives are available on Rjukanbanen , a portion of a former transport connection in Southern Norway (Rj.B. 19, 20 and 22), two of which are operable and are used for museum trains.
