Autumn hinge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Herbst hinge is an orthodontic device that is used to correct a back position of the lower jaw (overbite). It is a fixed appliance made up of metal tubes that are attached to the lower canines and upper molars. The tubes are pulled apart telescopically when the mouth is opened.

The treatment lasts about six to eight months and can be carried out up to the age of 30. Elastic bands are an alternative for minor misalignments, and jaw surgery is necessary for severe misalignments.

The autumn hinge and its modifications (Jasper-Jumper, Bite-Fixer, etc.) must be billed as a private service, as they are not part of the contractual health insurance service, unless removable models such. B. Bionators are no longer useful because their growth is too far advanced.

The device was invented in 1909 by the dentist Emil Herbst .
