from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Hercules rope (also Hercules rope ) twisted composite rope is called, which consists of cardels with a steel wire core and a fiber yarn covering. Originally developed for fishing, this cover was made from natural fibers. Often the stander of the pre-harness ( hunter ) consisted of the Hercules rigging in trawling. Compared to wire rope, it is more flexible and has a lower mass. Because of its relatively low mass and high strength, it is also used for fast lashing of smaller cargoes in shipping. Lashing is a form of securing cargo against slipping. Modern Hercules rigging consists of synthetic fibers and high-quality steel wires.
