Hermannsburg-Hamburg Free Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hermannsburg-Hamburg Free Church was a Lutheran church of old denomination. It arose as a result of a split from the Hanoverian Evangelical-Lutheran Free Church .

Disputes within the congregation in the Hermannsburg Kreuzgemeinde on the question of the clerical office led to a separation of this congregation into a large Hermannsburg Kreuzgemeinde and a small Hermannsburg Kreuzgemeinde. While the Kleine Kreuzgemeinde stayed with the Hanoverian Evangelical Lutheran Free Church, the Große Kreuzgemeinde separated and founded the new Hermannsburg-Hamburger Free Church with the Hamburg and Soltau Zionsgemeinde .

In 1945, the Hermannsburg-Hamburger Freikirche merged with other Lutheran churches to form the (Old) Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany, which in turn became part of today's Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK) based in Hanover in 1972 .
