Lanzenkirchen is mentioned in a document around 1130, it says: "Uvolfker de Lanzenkirchen"; This member of a ministerial family is mentioned again as a witness in 1132. These lords of Lanzenkirchen named themselves after the existing fortifications in Lanzenkirchen and were probably fiefs of the Counts Formbach-Pitten.
