A gentleman's cake is a cake that consists of several individually baked Viennese bases and that is coated with a couverture made of bitter dark chocolate . Between the floors, it is filled with wine cream.

The term “ Herrentorte” is sometimes also used for a hearty, filled pie in the form of a cake, although there is also no binding standard recipe. Cream cheese and ham are often used for the filling .

Trivia

  • The entertainer Helge Schneider calls himself the “Singing Gentlemen's Cake” .
  • The prefix “gentlemen” - is traditionally used in the food industry for products that tend to be less popular with women (and children) due to the different taste perception of “dangerous aromas” such as fermentation / alcohol (“spoiled”) or bitter substances (“toxic”) , compare also "men's chocolate" or "men's jam".
