Hertensteiner Cross

The " Hertensteiner Kreuz " was used as a flag by the federalist movements from September 14 to 24, 1946 in Hertenstein, Switzerland .

The symbol designed by the Basel sculptor Hedwig Frei was the first symbol used when the Swiss “ Europa-Union ” was founded in 1934. It shows a mirror-image double E, which is supposed to symbolize the unification of Europe.

When the Union of European Federalists (UEF) was founded , in which 31 associations of European Federalists from 14 countries had come together to form an umbrella organization, the “Hertenstein Cross” was used as a symbol. With the adoption of the Hertenstein program , the start of international preparation for the European movement was achieved .
