Heart cooler

The term heart cooler describes a device that is interesting in terms of medical history and that was used to cool the area around the heart from the outside. It was used symptomatically in pericarditis , for example , to reduce stressful symptoms such as palpitations and fever for the patient.

The heart cooler consisted of a rubber hose with cold water flowing through it or a copper coil. The term was also used generally for cold compresses. The heart cooler was placed on the left side of the chest in order to cool the heart area and reflexively lower the heart rate.
