Award requirements

General prerequisites for acquisition are that the achievement badge is only awarded to fire brigade members who have reached the age of 17, have taken part in the fire brigade performance exercise and have fulfilled the conditions listed in the foundation decree.

Iron fire service badge

In order to acquire the Iron Fire Service Badge, the candidate must have successfully completed the fire service exercise (at district level), i.e. This means that the team must have achieved at least the bronze level in the fire brigade performance exercise .

Bronze, silver or gold fire department badge

The prerequisite for the acquisition of the bronze, silver or gold badge is possession of the next lower level of badge, i.e. H. Successful participation in the fire service performance exercise in a further year as well as the successful completion of the additional services to acquire the bronze, silver or gold badge. These must be checked in writing after the fire service exercise, whereby 75% of the technical questions (questionnaire in the multiple-choice procedure ) must be answered correctly.

Bronze fire service badge

16 technical questions from fire service regulations as well as the specialist areas of accident prevention, burning and extinguishing, rescue and first aid, water-carrying fittings, water supply, fire extinguishers and vehicle knowledge are asked. The maximum time it takes to answer is 10 minutes.

Silver fire service badge

32 technical questions are asked, whereby in addition to the specialist areas of the bronze achievement badge, questions from the specialist areas of respiratory protection and operational training have to be answered. The maximum time to answer is 20 minutes.

Golden Fire Service Badge

32 technical questions are asked, whereby in addition to the specialist areas of the silver badge, questions from the specialist areas of operational tactics and fire service regulation 500 must also be answered. The maximum time it takes to answer is also 20 minutes.

Golden fire service badge with additional identification (number of repetitions)

The fire service badge with "additional identification" is awarded in three stages to participants who have already been awarded the golden fire service badge and who have then successfully participated in the Hessian fire service exercise a total of 5, 10 or 15 times. Another prerequisite for this award is successful participation in the additional performance requirement (questionnaire test) for the Golden Achievement Badge in the respective year.

Award procedure

If the performance exercise has been successfully completed, the district administrator or the mayor finally checks whether the performance for the award of the respective level has been performed. The award is then made by the district administrator himself or, in the case of communities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, by the mayor. The award should take place in an impressive way as part of a public event of the fire brigade to which the entrusted belongs. In addition to the original badge, he also receives a pin for the civil suit.

Provision and issue of the fire service badge

The badges are held by the ministry responsible for fire protection and given free of charge. They are made available by the regional councils and can be reordered from the ministry responsible for fire protection against proof of use. The counties and cities can also keep a certain number of badges in stock.

Confiscation of the achievement badge

The fire service badge can also be withdrawn retrospectively if the services that led to the award of the badge have been performed through the use of unauthorized means.

Appearance and texture

The Hessian fire service badge shows stylized licking flames in its background. In front of these is the Hessian coat of arms in the middle . The fire helmet above him and the crossed fire fighting axes between the coat of arms and flames symbolize the protection of the Hessian homeland from fires by the fire departments. Both the flames and the coat of arms are framed by an oval, upright wreath of oak leaves. The badge itself is made of light metal . The execution of the 1st stage is burnished and from the second stage bronzed. The 3rd stage is silver-bronzed and the 4th stage gold-bronzed. The 4th level of the achievement badge with the repetition number 5 or 10 is located directly below the coat of arms of these badges and is highlighted in black with a gold number.

Wearing instructions

The fire service badge is only worn at its highest level on the fire service suit in the middle of the left breast pocket. The civilian badge (on a pin), also awarded at the same time, is worn on the left lapel of the civilian suit. In addition, the authorization to carry is entered in a service book.
