The Hirota Shrine ( Japanese. 広 田 神社 , Hirota-jinja ) is a Shinto shrine in the Taisha-cho district ("Grand Shrine") of the city of Nishinomiya , Hyogo Prefecture , Japan . It is said to have been built by the legendary Empress consort Jingū -kōgō in the 3rd century after her return from Korea and is dedicated to the ara mitama of the Kami Amaterasu . He is already mentioned in the Nihonshoki .

At the end of the 11th century under the rule of Shirakawa -tennō, the Hirota Shrine was raised to the rank of Nijūnisha .

Tsukuyomi is venerated as the main kami in a side shrine . The Sake-Kami Ō-yama-kui of the Matsunoo shrine is venerated in another adjoining shrine . Another, the Kaze-jinja , is dedicated to the Wind-Kami Shina-tsu-hiko and Shina-tsu-hime. In Sayari-jinja , the road and roadside deities Sae-no-kami are worshiped (which rarely occurs in larger shrines). The Nishinomiya Shrine is a split from the Hirota Shrine.

The official cultural assets of Hyōgo Prefecture include over 20,000 wild azaleas ( kobanomitsuba tsutsuji ) on the shrine grounds. When they bloom in spring, the entire color impression of the hill in which the Hirota Shrine is located turns a strong azalea red.
