Histoire
In literary studies, after the French literary scholars Tzvetan Todorov and Gérard Genette, Histoire describes the content, the “what” of the story, which is in contrast to the “ discours ”, the “how” of the story. The histoire is the chronological listing of all contents that are given to the recipient within the discour - here often not linearly. The term goes back to Émile Benveniste , who developed it in his Problèmes de linguistique générale (German: Problems of general linguistics) .
The following pairs of opposites are used analogously:
- World and representation (Martinez),
- story and plot (E. M. Forster),
- fabula and sujet ( Boris Tomaschewski ).
