Histoire / story

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Histoire / Geschichte is a three-volume German - French history textbook for college in high school . The first volume was published in 2006, the second in 2008 and the third in 2011. It is the first binational history textbook in the world that teaches history to schoolchildren from different nations in the same way and with the same content. Accordingly, the book was published in French and German. Government representatives, academics and teachers as well as representatives of the two publishers were involved in the project. But it was rarely used in schools.

Idea and concept

The proposal for the book , which is laid out in several volumes, was approved by the Franco-German Youth Parliament . January 2003 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty met, presented and taken up by the national governments of both countries. However, the federal government is not responsible for school books.

The conception of the textbook turned out to be difficult because the curricula of all German federal states and France had to be taken into account, which were still changing during the creation. German and French authors designed the content. The authors stated that it was less the content than the book design that was disputed: author's text vs. Sources, purpose, number and size of the images, grading of work orders, objectives of the class.

The textbook is intended for the upper grades in Germany and for the three grades of the Lycée (namely: première, seconde and terminale) in France .

implementation

The project has been implemented over many years by government representatives from both countries, scientists and teachers as well as representatives from both publishers, Nathan and Klett. The result was a three-volume teaching work, edited by Daniel Henry, Guillaume de Quintrec and Peter Geiss. The contents of the German and French editions are completely identical.

On July 10, 2006, the first volume “Europe and the World since 1945” (French: L'Europe et le monde depuis 1945. ) was presented in Saarbrücken , and on April 9, 2008 in Berlin the second volume “From the Congress of Vienna to End of the 2nd World War ”. The third volume, entitled “Europe and the World from Antiquity to 1815”, was published in July 2011. Writing the volumes in reverse was to receive journalistic attention.

It is not only the first binational history textbook, but at the time of its publication it is also the only nationally approved school textbook. The federal states had been asked for generous approval by the Federal Chancellery. The foreign ministries of both countries sponsored the project. The book was sold little on the balance sheet, Klett-Verlag only sells the remains (2020).
