Corine Defrance

Corine Defrance (born February 25, 1966 in Dieppe ) is a French historian .

Life and academic career

After graduating from the Lycée Corneille in Rouen (1983), Corine Defrance attended the classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles des Lycée Henri IV in Paris and then continued her studies in history and geography at the Université de Paris IV- Sorbonne . In 1993 she did her doctorate at the same university in modern and contemporary history under the direction of Jacques Bariéty on French cultural policy in occupied Germany (1945–1955). Between 1990 and 1993 she stayed several times as a doctoral candidate and scholarship holder at the Institute for European History in Mainz . As a postdoctoral fellow at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation , she conducted research in Bonn in 1995 , where she laid the foundation for a study on the denazification and democratization of German universities after 1945. In 2002 she completed her habilitation at the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg . Her book "Les Alliés occidentaux et les universités allemandes, 1945–1949" (Paris, 2000) was awarded the Prix Maurice Baumont in 2001 by the Académie des sciences morales et politiques .

The researcher has been at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) since 1995 , from 1995 to 2002 at the Center d'Études Germaniques in Strasbourg, since 2002 at IRICE (Paris), which has been called SIRICE since 2015. After years as a research assistant ( chargée de recherche ), Corine Defrance has been a professor ( directrice de recherche ) since 2012 . From 1993 to 2013 she was also a research assistant at the commission for the publication of diplomatic files at the French Foreign Ministry.

Corine Defrance has taught at the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg and the Franco-German European Campus of Sciences Po in Nancy . Since 2003 she has been teaching at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne . In the 2011/2012 academic year she was visiting professor at the Free University of Berlin . Since 2013 she has been jointly responsible for the research axis “L'Europe des guerres et des traces de guerres” of LabEX EHNE (Ecrire une Histoire Nouvelle de l'Europe), Paris.
