Maurice Baumont
Edmond Marie Maurice Baumont (born February 26, 1892 in Lunéville , † June 12, 1981 in Paris ) was a French historian with a focus on the history of Germany and France at the time of the Third Republic (1871 to 1940).
Life
He graduated from the École normal supérieure (Paris) , was a private lecturer in history and geography, became a professor at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (Paris) and at the Geneva University Institute for International Studies . From 1919 to 1939 he was a member of the Secretariat of the League of Nations . In 1930 he took part in the 3e cours universitaire de Davos, along with numerous other French and German intellectuals. From 1939 to 1945 he was, together with Pierre Renouvin , director of the Commission de publication des documents relatifs aux origines de la guerre . In 1957 he was elected a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques (ASMP).
An ASMP prize, an avenue in Paris (Allée Maurice-Baumont) and the center historique de recherches de Maurice Baumont (center for historical research) in Luxeuil-les-Bains are named after him .
He was named Righteous Among the Nations .
His estate is kept in the Center des archives diplomatiques de La Courneuve (Ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Développement international).
