Ulrich Pfeil (born May 13, 1966 in Hamburg ) is a German historian in France.

Life

Ulrich Pfeil grew up in Heide (Holstein) and graduated from high school in Heide-Ost in 1985 . After completing his military service, he studied education , French and history at the University of Hamburg from 1987 to 1993 . In 1989/90 he worked as a foreign language assistant in Lure , France . Between 1993 and 1995 he completed his legal clerkship at Elsensee-Gymnasium in Quickborn . After the second state examination, he taught at the Bernau high school near Berlin ( Brandenburg ) in 1995/96 .

In 1995 he started at the Department of History of the University of Hamburg with a dissertation on the topic From the Empire to the Third Reich. The district town of Heide / Holstein 1890-1933 doctorate. From 1996 to 2002, Pfeil worked as a DAAD lecturer at the Institut d'Allemand d'Asnières ( Asnières-sur-Seine ) at the University of Paris III (Sorbonne Nouvelle). A grant from the German Research Foundation enabled him in 2002 to study at the University of Lille III on the subject of “The 'other' Franco-German relations. The GDR and France 1949–1990 ”to complete his habilitation . Between 2002 and 2009 he worked at the German Historical Institute in Paris and in 2003 was a visiting professor at the 1st cycle franco-allemand de Sciences Po Paris à Nancy . From 2005 to 2010, Pfeil was Professor of German Studies at the Université Jean Monnet de Saint-Étienne . On September 1, 2010, he was offered a position at the University of Metz , which in 2012 was merged into the Université de Lorraine .

His research interests in the field of Modern and Contemporary History, in addition to studies of French and German culture of remembrance, the Franco-German relations in history and current events, the history of Europe, Germany in the Cold War , the history of German and international historiography and the Schleswig-Holstein state history 19th and 20th centuries. He also co-edited the Franco-German history book Histoire / Geschichte . He is also interested in the history of football, especially that of FC Bayern Munich . He also writes in the press on current issues relating to Franco-German relations and political developments in France. Until its dissolution he was a member of the historical commission of the SPD .
