The Europaschule Gymnasium Heide-Ost (short: GHO ) is one of the two high schools in Heide (Holstein) and part of the Heide-Ost school center , and has also been a cultural school since 2014 .
history
The grammar school has existed since 1978 and is currently attended by around 700 students. Originally the experimental school "Cooperative Orientation Level" was initialized in 1973, but it was dissolved two years later, until the complete grammar school in 1981, in which all classes were represented, the school as well as the Realschule - and the secondary school in the school center Heide-Ost previously the abbreviation "iE" ( in development ). After the friends' association was founded in 1976, the first school newspaper “Kiek In” ( Low German : Schau rein ) appeared in the same year , and there was also a class swap with the local Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium . After extensions in 1977 (two additional physics rooms) and 1978 (eight more classrooms), construction of the sports field began in autumn 1978. After further construction work, the current name “Gymnasium Heide-Ost” was given in October 1989. The forum was established in 1992/93 and the first Christmas concert took place in December 1993. In 1994 the GHO took part in the federal foreign language competition for the first time , and in 1997 there were no classes on Saturdays . The project "Schule macht Zeitung macht Schule" has been carried out with the Dithmarscher regional newspaper since 2000, and in 2002 the wind class was established for the first time.
An exchange program between the GHO Symphonic Band and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan ( USA ) has existed since 2014 . This led to the school orchestra being able to tour the USA in 2014.
European school
The GHO has been a European school since November 2002 . The school's relationships with other European countries are primarily reflected in the school partnerships: Naantali ( Finland ), Minsk ( Belarus ), Bergerac ( France ) and Nowogard / Danzig ( Poland ). In addition, there has been a working group since 2006/07 which organizes a school exchange with a secondary school in Kagera (Tanzania) and the preparation of cultural differences. This project is funded u. a. from the federal development school exchange program (ENSA).
Culture forum / culture school

The school center also includes the Heide-Ost cultural forum , which regularly hosts events from the fields of music and theater . Brass classes have been taught since 2002 , the "music branch" includes extended music lessons for grades 5 to 9, some with external specialists as well as several working groups and the option of choosing a music profile in the upper school.

For the “ Year of Cultural Education 2014 ” of the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Europe Schleswig-Holstein , the GHO was awarded together with four other schools as a “cultural school” because they exemplarily inherit the various aspects of cultural education and children and young people different forms of artistic expression bring it closer and experience it.

Language acquisition

Support association
The supporters and alumni of the school are organized in the Förderverein Gymnasium Heide-Ost eV and the alumni club of the Gymnasium Heide-Ost eV , and a third association also supports the wind class.
Mentoring program
Since 2013 there has been a mentoring program “GuK - Grosse support little ones”, in which pupils of the higher grades support younger ones under supervision.
