The development school exchange program , or ENSA for short , is a funding program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Since 2005, more than 250 school exchange projects between secondary and vocational schools in Germany and countries in Africa , Asia , Latin America and Southeast Europe have been funded - with a financial grant for flight costs and accommodation as well as educational support through preparatory and follow-up seminars.

History of the ENSA program

ENSA goes back to a 2002 resolution of the German Bundestag to set up a youth development program, Solidaric Learning . The development policy learning workshop ASA of the then InWEnt ( international further education and development ) gGmbH created a concept on behalf of the BMZ in 2005.

A first pilot project took place in 2005 : together with the non-governmental organization (NGO) streetfootballworld , the development policy learning workshop ASA organized the project The Other Half of the Game , in which pupils from five German schools were able to get to know the work of the NGOs in Kenya , Brazil , Peru , Senegal and South Africa . Since then, more than 100 encounters between schoolchildren from Germany and developing and transition countries have been funded as part of the ENSA program .

From January 1, 2011, the ENSA program was sponsored by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), which arose from the merger of the former InWEnt, the German Development Service ( DED ) and the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) . Today the ENSA program is under the umbrella of Engagement Global .

You can apply for funding in the previous year between May and September.

Goals and Topics

ENSA promotes school partnerships that deal with social justice, ecological compatibility and economic sustainability for future generations. The aim of the ENSA program is to encourage students to social commitment to animate. They should also pass on the experiences they made during the exchange to those around them. In the context of the sponsored school encounters, the perspective of the southern partners should also be included. Schoolchildren and organizations in developing and transition countries should work with those responsible in Germany to organize school exchanges and create a program. As part of the ENSA program, the content of the meetings will be prepared and followed up.

The ENSA program is in the context of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development , which motivates people to actively and responsibly participate in shaping the future of global society and to make a contribution in their own living environment.
