Josef Wedl
Josef Wedl (born December 6, 1835 in Vienna ; † January 21, 1901 there ) was an Austrian politician and fire department functionary.
Life
Josef Wedl studied law at the University of Innsbruck . With 12 fellow students he founded the Corps Chinesia in 1859. Under Franz Thurner he became a member of the newly founded Innsbruck fire brigade. After graduating, he came to Wiener Neustadt and became its first captain (commander) after founding his fire brigade. As a member of the German Liberal Party , Wedl was also able to help the fire brigade through political contacts. In 1869 he became a councilor in Wiener Neustadt and in 1871 deputy mayor and in the same year also a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament . As a result he was also elected to the Reichsrat (Austria) . In the fire brigade Wedl represented a separation from the gymnastics clubs, which were the actual sponsors of the first volunteer fire brigades in the German-speaking area. The fire brigade in Wiener Neustadt was probably the first to separate from the gymnastics club. In 1876 Wedl became the first chairman of the Association of Voluntary and Turner Fire Brigades in Lower Austria and thus the first state fire brigade commander in Lower Austria .
In 1893 he was deleted from the list of lawyers after the Disciplinary Senate of the Supreme Court had discovered . Wedl resigned from all functions and, presumably impoverished, moved to Vienna and became a representative of the fire service manufacturer Reginald Czermack from Teplitz in Bohemia. Wedl's urn, who died and was cremated at the age of 66, was buried in Wiener Neustadt.
