A school center is generally referred to as a collection of different schools on one site. For example, a primary school , a secondary school and a grammar school can share one site. If the Hauptschule , Realschule and Gymnasium are spatially and organizationally linked, one speaks of a cooperative comprehensive school .

School centers of this type have the advantage that the entire educational path of a student can take place on one site, since after completing primary school he can, for example, switch to a neighboring secondary school.

Other advantages include a. that the city or municipality in question only has to make one place accessible for public transport and not several, or that pupils who have to switch to another type of school can attend a neighboring school and thus do not have to leave their social environment.
