Foreign language assistant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A foreign language assistant (English Foreign Language Assistant ) is - in the German case - a prospective German - DaF- or a foreign language teacher who spends a certain amount of time abroad to assist in German lessons. Foreign language assistants should not normally replace the teacher, but rather help him with the practical design of the lessons, work with small groups of learners and organize extra-curricular activities to motivate learners to speak and to give them impressions of the country and its people. The assignment can take place in various countries - both in state and private schools. The school and / or its responsible school authority bears the financial costs (salary of the assistant teacher, rarely also the accommodation).

In Germany , the Pedagogical Exchange Service (PAD) primarily organizes the exchange of foreign language assistants. With the programs of the PAD, prospective English teachers can go as assistants to Australia , Great Britain , Ireland , Canada , New Zealand or the USA . For aspiring French teachers, there are programs with Belgium , France , Switzerland and Canada. Prospective Spanish teachers can work in Spain and prospective Italian teachers in Italy . Sinology students with a school-relevant additional subject can apply for an assistantship in China .

Students from abroad can also work as foreign language assistants in Germany. As a foreign language assistant (FSA), you support the teachers at your host school in teaching languages. You apply directly in your home country for an assistantship in Germany.

The European portals erasmusintern.org and School Education Gateway offer further options for students to assist in schools in Europe. The EU education program Erasmus + (2014–2020) supports internships for students in other European countries. The search for an internship at an educational institution is individual.
