The Fremont River is a river in the US state of Utah . It flows from Johnson Valley Reservoir near Fish Lake through Capitol Reef National Park . At Hanksville , the 115 kilometer long Muddy Creek flows into the river and together they form the Dirty Devil River , which flows into the Colorado River .

The river was named after the explorer John Charles Fremont , who toured the area in 1853/1854. The river, in turn, gave its name to the Fremont culture .
