The Historical Association of the Canton of Schwyz is a historical association in Switzerland . It was founded in November 1877.

history

The goals of the association in the 19th century were the research of "patriotic history, regional studies and cultural conditions", the "collection of the sources and resources from this" and the "preservation of historical monuments".

The association's board consists of representatives from all six districts of the Canton of Schwyz . The general assembly takes place annually on December 8th ( Mary's Conception ) alternately in one of the districts. In addition to other events, the association offers lectures on Schwyz and Swiss history four times a year in the Bundesbriefmuseum .

Publications

Every year, the Historical Association publishes an illustrated book under the title Mitteilungen des Historisches Verein des Kanton Schwyz , which reports on the latest research and findings on cantonal history. Publication began in 1882. The individual volumes of the annual journal are referred to as a booklet. Until the 1970s, the focus was on texts on political and church history. After that, economic and social history, cultural history and archeology moved increasingly into the focus of the "Mitteilungen".

In 2012, the historical association was also the publisher of the “History of the Canton of Schwyz” published in six volumes and a volume of material by Chronos Verlag in Zurich. 48 authors wrote the articles for the total of 2086 pages.
