Hobbs' opening procedure

The Hobbs'sche opening procedure nowadays is a procedure to open lock cylinders . It is a process named after the American master locksmith and inventor Alfred Charles Hobbs , which enables a lock cylinder to be opened with a suitable tool by tightening the housing pins by torque.

Originally, the Hobbs opening method (Hobbs lever) was only used for Chubb locks . The procedure was later modified to include other locking tools for opening lock cylinders. It is now commonly known as lock picking .
