Planes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hobels is a small hill in the middle town of St. Ingbert in the Saarpfalz district , Saarland. It extends from the immediate vicinity of the city center to the eastern border of St. Ingbert's core city, the city forest. Over the centuries the overgrown hill became a residential area.

The old Becker brewery, which is now an innovation center, and the Oststrasse industrial area still exist on the planer.

Special buildings include the parish church of St. Josef, the THW , the German Red Cross , the former Becker brewery and the parish home “Auf dem Hobels”.

The planer covers several streets: Reinhold-Becker-Strasse, Kohl-Weigand-Strasse, Walter-Weis-Strasse, Carl-Zuckmayer-Strasse, Akazienweg, Beim Franzosengrab, Zur Au-Dell, Bergstrasse, Alter Blieskastelerweg, Bert-Brecht-Strasse , Hobelsstrasse, Prälat-Goebel-Strasse, Pfarrer-Klein-Strasse, Pfarrer-Lauer-Strasse, St. Herblainer Strasse, Nationalstrasse, Rhodterstrasse and Oststrasse.

history

In the Middle Ages there was a castle on this hill. This is mentioned in several documents between 1174 and 1633. Presumably it was destroyed in the turmoil of the Thirty Years War . The last above-ground indications are likely to have been destroyed with the construction of the Osttangente, part of the Inner Ring, a bypass road around the city. Today there are only a few rock cellars that can be reached from Blieskasteler Straße.

With the resettlement of St. Ingbert after its complete destruction in the Thirty Years' War, it took until the middle of the 19th century for the first houses to spread from the city center to the Planes.

From 1890 to 1893 the parish church of St. Josef was built on an old rock cellar. It is considered the second largest church in the Speyer diocese . At that time, the Beckers beer brewers were also drawn to the planes. It is connected to Kaiserstraße via a winding road.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a youth home was built on the south side of Hobel, which was converted into a hospital at the beginning of the First World War.

Since the 1920s, the settlement area in St. Ingbert expanded more and more and reached the slope of the Planer from the south from Blieskasteler Straße, to the north from Kaiserstraße and from the west from the city center.

In the 1970s and 1980s the city of St. Ingbert began to develop a large settlement plan for the planer. For this purpose, a lot of land was bought up by the parish of St. Josef, which was a major owner on the planer. At this time, the THW and the municipal utilities also built their facilities there.

In the mid-1990s, the Hobels I residential area was almost completely built on. The German Red Cross now also settled on the planer.

A few years ago, the last large open space in St. Ingbert, Hobels II, was opened up. Construction has been going on here since 2006. The Hobels has been connected to the St. Ingbert bus network since September 1983 (Ingo city bus, previously there were only single trips to the Hobels).
