University compass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hochschulkompass (university and course information system on the Internet) is a free and freely accessible Internet portal that provides information on state and state-recognized German universities , their courses and doctoral programs as well as international collaborations. The information presented is updated daily and is entered and maintained by the listed universities themselves.

The Hochschulkompass has been offered by the University Rectors' Conference as an information portal on the Internet since 1998 and is available in German and English. The content is divided into four thematic areas: universities, studies, doctorates and international cooperation. In addition, the Hochschulkompass is the data basis for the official nationwide study place exchange of the federal government, federal states and universities on the Internet.

Colleges

In the Universities section of the Hochschulkompass, a lot of basic information about the individual universities is available (as of October 2010: 377 universities). This includes, for example, information on the sponsorship (state / private / church), awarded doctoral and / or habilitation rights , the number of students and the home address, Internet address and general contact details of the university. Anyone looking for specific contacts at the university (student advisory service, disability officer, international office, etc.) or who would like to find out more about the university management will also find detailed information here.

Education

In the study area of the Hochschulkompass, up-to-date basic information is offered on more than 14,000 courses, which are entered and maintained by the universities themselves. With the help of a general search, prospective students can approach their desired degree program very unspecifically. Those who already have more precise ideas about their future studies can use the professional search to narrow down their selection according to geographic, university-specific and course-specific characteristics. Each course description contains the contact details of contact persons at the respective university and usually also an internet link to the relevant website for the course.

promotion

In the promotion area of the Hochschulkompass, information is stored for around 1,000 doctoral opportunities. The basis for this list is an ongoing evaluation of the doctoral regulations by the University Rectors' Conference. If you have any queries, the contact details of the direct contact persons at the universities given in the detailed view of each doctoral opportunity are suitable.

International cooperation

The International Cooperation section of the Hochschulkompass provides information on more than 20,000 partnerships between German universities and universities abroad. The cooperations can be researched according to subject areas, the subject of the cooperation, the form of cooperation and much more. Here, too, the information is entered and maintained directly by the listed universities.

Nationwide study place exchange

The official nationwide study place exchange was agreed by the federal government, states and universities and is a joint project of the German Rectors' Conference and the Foundation for University Admission . It was developed by the University Rectors' Conference and is intended to contribute to the fullest possible use of the admission capacities at German universities. The study place exchange aims in particular to fill the study place capacities that have remained free in locally admission-restricted study programs even after the replacement procedure prescribed by state law . In addition to the locally admission-restricted courses, you can also look for courses with unrestricted admission and free space.

Based on the information requirements of the prospective students, the study place exchange offers the possibility of a targeted search for subject and location and provides the necessary information about contact persons in the universities as well as via websites with the respective application requirements and deadlines for each search result. Access is free and does not require registration.

Since the nationwide study place exchange only provides information on the available study place capacities at the universities for the current admission semester, it is only online twice a year for two months each (summer semester: March / April; winter semester: September / October).

Study Interest Test (SIT)

The study interest test (SIT) of the University Rectors' Conference (HRK) and ZEIT ONLINE is a study orientation process that primarily supports schoolchildren in choosing a course. All who take the test will immediately receive an individual evaluation with a personal interest profile and a list of courses that match this interest profile. The SIT is free, takes around 15 minutes and is based on a scientific test procedure based on the self-assessments of the test participants.
