The Hoffmann Mineral GmbH is a medium-sized mining companies from Neuburg an der Donau . It is the only company to mine Neuburg Siliceous Earth and takes care of its worldwide marketing and sales. The company was founded in 1903 and has around 150 employees.

history
Hoffmann Mineral was founded in 1903 by Franz Hoffmann as a steam cleaning plant for Neuburg Siliceous Earth. At that time, the most important areas of application for silica were polishing agents and household care products. In 1950 the company Sonax GmbH emerged. In 1971 Hoffmann Mineral took over the silica division of the competitor Globus-Werke and since then has been the only producer of Neuburg Siliceous Earth. In 1979 the last underground mine was closed and since then only silica has been mined in the open pit. In 1991 Manfred Hoffmann junior takes over the company and is the fourth generation to manage it.
Products
Hoffmann Mineral is the only existing company that mines Neuburg Siliceous Earth. Hoffmann Mineral sells around 55,000 tons of the processed mineral every year. Around 150,000 tons of the raw silica must be extracted for this. Neuburg Siliceous Earth is mainly used as a filler in elastomers , thermoplastics , paints and varnishes as well as polishing agents . Important areas of application are the automotive industry , medical technology and the construction industry .

Hoffmann Mineral sells its products through sales partners in more than 100 countries. In addition to the main market Germany, where around half of the silica production is sold, Asia and North America are important markets.
