Court goers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hofegänger (also Hofgänger ) were Gutstagelöhner that were found mainly on large estates in northern and eastern Germany, especially in the 19th century.

On the estates there were Inste who worked with their families on a farm and had farmhands, the farmhands (or Scharknechte). They had a lordly relationship with the landlord, but were not wage laborers because they shared in the yield of the land, but received no fixed wages for their work.
