The holfter (other variants halter , holster or holster ) describes a case on the riding saddle for holding firearms , mostly pistols .

Holfter are usually on both sides of the front pommel (z. B. on a Bocksattel attached). They are typically made of leather , with the help of holster caps the firearms are covered and thus protected from the weather.

Other word meanings that are no longer in use are the designation for a satchel and Holftermuschel for the pen shell .
