The wooden church of Cizer is the former village church of Cizer ( Sălaj county ). It was built in 1773 by Vasile Ursu Nicola , also known as Horea, a leader of the peasant uprising of 1784 .

In particular, the polygonal floor plan and the well-preserved interior painting are of art historical value.

Current location

In 1968 the building was moved to the open-air section of the Ethnographic Museum of Cluj-Napoca (Eng. Klausenburg ). The location is at the entrance to the Hoia City Forest - Strada Parcul Etnocrafic Romulus Vuia .

The master

The inscriptions on the main entrance portal and the entrance portal in the nave date the start of construction to the year 1773. Local tradition assigns the construction of the church to Master Horea. He lived near the village of Iegărişte, on the territory of the Banffy family, who also owned the village of Cizer. The tradition is confirmed by an inscription: lucrat Ursu H (orea) (worked Ursu H), which is located on a beam of the dome, an unusual place for such an inscription. Horea wrote in his will that he owed 44 florins to Nicula Ion, the builder of the Țăzeri church. The mention of the guilt indicates that Horea was the one who got the money to build it. The builders of the churches often worked in pairs and were therefore very dependent on one another.
