Hom (mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hom is a Persian word of creation, original and law (Honover: let there be!). The 'King of Light', or Ahura Mazda , is an emanation from the original light in Zoroastrianism and formed or created a pure and holy world with the pronouncement of the word “Honover” (Ahuna-Vairya). Hom symbolizes in different moments e.g. B. Spirit and man (cf. humanity and hominus ). The word is called the tree of life in the first stories of the Zend- Avesta . Om is related to the word or even means the same thing and is still the Buddhist term of the highest and most sacred intelligence in the universe and above the cycle of transmigration of souls , and it is also etymologically affine due to its similarity to the Sanskrit word soma , the intoxicating drink of the gods from the Rig Veda .

The prophet Hom (Homanes), a mythological figure from Persian culture who lived under the legendary Jamschid , is the first herald. Hom is the supreme deity whose name cannot be spoken out loud. The fabulous person Hom was evoked by Ahura Mazda under the rule of the Jamjid to announce the divine word and founded the magic by creating a priesthood charged with upholding tradition and spreading its dogmas . Zoroaster is said to have only reformed the religion of Hom.
