Homenetmen ( Armenian Հ. Մ. Ը. Մ. ˈHɔmɛnetmɛn , short for Հայ Մարմնակրթական Ընդհանուր Միութիւն, German Armenian General Union of Physical Culture ) is a worldwide Armenian diaspora organization that is dedicated to sport and scouting . The motto of Homenetmen is "Rise and exalt yourself" (Բարձրացի՛ր, Բարձրացո՛ւր Partsratsir Partsratsour - Rise yourself and raise others with you).

history

Homenetmen was founded in Istanbul in 1918 by people around the Olympic pioneer Şavarş Krisyan . Hovhannes Hintliyan and Krikor Hagopian were among the founders . The first Homenetmen Executive Committee was established on December 16, 1918. Four Homenetmen departments soon opened in different areas of Istanbul.

On July 20, 1920, the founding members of Homenetmen were officially invited to the independent Democratic Republic of Armenia to exchange expertise in sporting and scouting with the government of the state. The Homenetmen Executive Committee sent Vahan Cheraz, Dikran Khoyan and Onig Yazmajian for a formal meeting. Although Homenetmen were originally successful in expanding their sports and scouting movement in Armenia , they were later banished from Armenia with regime change and the establishment of the Armenian SSR within the Soviet Union in 1921 . In 1922, the departments of Homenetmen in Istanbul were forced to close their doors, with the organization's leaders settling around the world.

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation now maintains the Homenetmen sports and scouting club.
