Honington is a place in the north of the county of Suffolk , which is on the river Blackbourn. The village is about nine miles north of Bury St Edmunds and about 6.5 miles southeast of Thetford . The 2001 census counted 1247 inhabitants.

Nearby is the former Royal Air Force RAF Honington , which opened on May 3, 1937. Military flight operations ceased in 1994.

Famous residents

In 1766 the poet Robert Bloomfield was born in Honington.
