Honmon Hokke-shu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Honmon Hokke-shū or Hommon Hokke-shū ( Japanese 本 門 法 華 宗 ) belongs, along with the Nichiren-shū , to the oldest schools of Nichiren Buddhism , albeit little documented in the West . It was in 1423, after a split from Ikegami Honmon-ji through Nichiryū ( 日隆 founded). In addition to the Honnō-ji in Kyoto , one of their main temples also includes the Daihonzan Myōren-ji . With a following of almost 40,000 believers, it is one of the smaller schools of Nichiren Buddhism, whereas a split from this school, the Honmon Butsuryū-shū, has a much larger following today.
