Hot Club of Chicago

The Hot Club of Chicago was a Chicago-based association that organized hot jazz concerts in the 1930s and 40s .

The Hot Club of Chicago was founded in the 1930s by John Steiner (1908-2000), Helen Oakley and Harry Lim, and was directed in later years by Catherine Jacobson, John Schenk and George Hofer. It was the first hot jazz club in the United States.

The Hot Club of Chicago held a number of jazz concerts in various Chicago venues, including a. the Twin Terrace Concerts , with musicians like Bunk Johnson , or the concert by the Benny Goodman Trio with Gene Krupa and Teddy Wilson (1935) in the Urban Room (corner of Michigan Avenue and Congress Parkway). Around 1946 the club organized monthly jazz concerts at Moose Hall (1016 North Dearborn Street), among others. a. with nationally known jazz musicians like Albert Ammons , Lil Armstrong and the Hot Club Rhythm Kings, Roy Eldridge , Doc Evans , Bud Freeman , Darnell Howard 's New Orleans Stompers, Jimmy McPartland , Jack Teagarden 's Big Eight, Jimmy Yancey as well as with local musicians like Floyd Bean and George Zack .
