The Hotel Africa is a former luxury hotel in the Liberian capital Monrovia .

The hotel is located about ten kilometers (as the crow flies) north of the city center at the mouth of the Saint Paul River in the Atlantic .

The building, which is architecturally oriented towards European hotels from the 1970s, has an unobstructed view of the capital, the Atlantic coast and the port of Monrovia. The hotel was closed to visitors during the civil war . The hotel was looted when the capital was attacked during the Second Civil War and is now a windowless ruin. Due to the size of the ruin complex - two six-storey main buildings and a few bungalows and ancillary buildings on the park-like area - the hotel complex has not yet been renovated, and the economic prospects for such a large hotel in Monrovia have not been proven.

Camp Clara  - the " military base " of the Irish and Swedish UN contingents in Liberia is currently located on the grounds . In August 2005, BBC reporter and photojournalist Simon Norfolk visited Camp Clara on behalf of the Irish Armed Forces . On this occasion, in addition to a detailed report on the military operation, the unique image documentation Welcome to the Hotel Africa with scenes of the decay and the architectural beauty of this ruin was created.
