Hotel Modern

Hotel Modern is a self-governing Dutch theater collective founded in 1997 in Rotterdam . The venue is the Stichting Kunst & Complex (a foundation). Her medium are malleable finger-sized puppets and other roughly finger-sized play figures in a puppet theater . Pauline Kalker, Arlène Hoornweg and Herman Helle directed, concept and play. Arlène and Pauline are graduates of the Arnhemse Toneelschool . Herman Helle (1953) is known as a set designer in the Netherlands. The sound concept comes from Ruud van der Pluijm; Stage and video technology by Saskia de Vries and Joris van Oosterhout.

Camp

" Kamp - Lager" tries to recreate everyday life in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp . This takes place in an architectural replica of the entire warehouse complex on a scale of 1:20 with the railway line including the selection ramp and details such as the barracks, gas chambers and incinerators. About 3,000 finger-sized figurines in prisoner and SS uniforms are set up and moved around. These include B. individual figures, but sometimes entire groups, arrival of the train, the selection, one inmate sweeps the street, one throws himself into the wire fence, four inmates are hanged. For the audience, the action is transmitted to monitors by hand-sized cameras. The sepia brown images have their own formal language. The game is played without text.
