The Mollberg Hotel in Helsingborg

Hotel Mollberg ( Swedish Hotell Mollberg ) in the southern Swedish city of Helsingborg is considered to be the oldest hotel in Sweden . Since the 14th century there has been a hostel in the place where the current hotel stands . The hotel only got its name in 1802, when it was bought by the seaman Peter Mollberg and christened Hotel d'Mollberg . In 1814 the building was demolished to make way for a new two-story building.

Since then, the hotel on Stortorget has been continuously expanded in line with the growth of the city. Between 1884 and 1905 it became the representative building with four floors and a richly ornamented and plastered facade that it still is today in two stages. The Helsingborg city architect Mauritz Frohm played a key role in the renovation and expansion, but also the architect Alfred Hellerström .

The hotel has been operated as the Elite Hotel Mollberg by the Elite Hotels group since 1990 .

Guests

King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden is said to have lived here for two months during a visit to Helsingborg on his return trip from Pomerania.
