House of Dun and the adjacent Montrose Basin Nature Reserve are owned by the National Trust for Scotland in Angus , Scotland .

The Dun Estate was the home of the Erskine family (later Kennedy-Erskine) from 1375 to 1980. The current house was designed by architect William Adam and completed in 1730. Elaborate wall decorations exist in some rooms. Writer and poet Violet Jacob was a member of the Kennedy-Erskine family and was born in this house.

Archaeological excavations have shown that the neighboring area was already inhabited by humans 9,000 years ago.
