Hugo López-Gatell (2020)

Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez (born February 22, 1969 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican epidemiologist, researcher, professor and civil servant. Since 2018 he has been Head of the Undersecretariat for Prevention and Health Promotion in the Mexican Ministry of Health.

Life

Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez is the son of the urologist Francisco López-Gatell Trujillo (* 1925 in Tarragona , Catalonia ) and the nurse Margarita Ramírez Duarte. His father went to Mexico with his family as Republican exiles.

He entered the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where he graduated as a doctor in 1994. He is a specialist in internal medicine. During his postdoctoral fellowship in 2006, he conducted a prospective study of the effects of tuberculosis on survival of HIV-infected men, which was published as an article.

He is currently Head of the Secretariat for Health Promotion and Prevention.
