Hugo von Ibelin , called the Strong , ( Hue le Fort ; † probably 1238 ) was a Cypriot knight of the medieval Outremer . He was the third son of the powerful feudal lord Johann von Ibelin , called "the old lord of Beirut", and his wife Melisende von Arsuf.

When Emperor Friedrich II landed in Limassol in 1228 on the occasion of his crusade , Hugo and his older brother Balian had to be handed over as hostages in his wake as a pledge for the loyalty of their father, who was considered an opponent of the Emperor. After the emperor left Outremer again in May 1229, the country's barons rose against the imperial governors who had been left behind under the leadership of the Ibelins ( Lombard war ). Like his brothers, Hugo fought on June 15, 1232 in the decisive battle near Agridi , in which he led the vanguard of the Cypriots, as a result of which the supporters of the emperor were driven from Cyprus .

Hugo died in 1238. In April 1239, King Henry I of Cyprus had a memorial service held for him in the St. Sophia Cathedral .
