Hunger pangs

Hunger hook is a slang term for noticeably thin people. The term is used mockingly or with a negative connotation .

According to Heinz Küpper, the term has been used since around 1965. It is intended to express that in very thin people who are underweight, some bones protrude clearly and are therefore reminiscent of hooks. Other interpretations of the expression are attributable to folk etymology .
